Cancelled: Experience the Soul of Mexico at the Palmer Opera House

September 13, 2025

Palmer Opera House invites the community to a vibrant cultural performance on Saturday, September 13 at 1 p.m. featuring Karla Slack and Alma de Mexico. This program is hosted by Cuba Circulating Library.

Audiences will encounter the legendary 10-foot-long Feathered Serpent, Quetzalcoatl, from ancient Mexican mythology. Warriors will battle the serpent while guests join in by learning traditional dance steps—helping to “protect the community from danger” through rhythm and movement.

Born and raised in Mexico City, Karla Slack has long been passionate about sharing the traditions of her homeland. She founded her first dance troupe in Mexico, and after moving to Rochester, NY, established Alma de Mexico to continue preserving and promoting Central American music and dance. In addition to directing the group, Karla also teaches Zumba, inspiring people of all ages to connect with culture through movement.

This program is made possible by the Community Arts Grants program, supported by the Statewide Community Regrants Program of the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of the Office of the Governor and the New York State Legislature, and administered in Allegany and Wyoming counties by the Arts Council for Wyoming County.
