Celebrate Library Card Sign-Up Month with a Special Documentary Screening at Cuba Library

In honor of Library Card Sign-Up Month, the Cuba Library invites community members to a special screening of the PBS documentary Free for All: The Public Library on Wednesday, September 24 at 6:00 p.m.

This compelling film explores the rich history and enduring impact of public libraries in the United States. It highlights the visionary individuals—many of them pioneering women—behind the “Free Library Movement,” as well as the librarians of today who continue to serve diverse communities amidst challenges like budget cuts and book bans. Free for All pays tribute to the idea that libraries are more than just buildings—they are vital civic institutions, offering equal access to information and a welcoming space for all.

Following the screening, a panel of Cuba Library trustees and staff will host a Q&A session and share personal stories about their experiences and the evolving role of libraries.

This event is free and open to the public. Attendees are encouraged to join in the fun by arriving dressed as their favorite book character or librarian for a chance to win exclusive library-themed prizes.
